Minutes of the 111th Belle Plaine High School Reunion

May 23rd, 2003

Co-President Terry Howe Sisson '74 opened the meeting with welcoming remarks. The invocation was delivered by Dan Hatfield '53. It was announced that yellow ribbons had been displayed in honor of those who couldn't attend while serving our country. An introduction and recognition of the earliest alumni was made - Hazel Walton Cleaver '26. The 75-year class was recognized. The new alumni class of 2003 was welcomed and the response was given by Josh Shaw, Class President. Roses were passed to the 1953 class by the class of 2003.

The Fifty-Year reunion class was introduced. Dan Hatfield, President of the '53 class, gave a few comments. Seven started the first grade, 32 graduated and they have lost seven members. Farris Razook, a teacher/coach, was their guest for the evening. A representative of the other anniversary classes also shared their school memories.

Judy Wooldridge Graber '56 shared some facts about the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Twenty-one scholarships have been awarded since its inception in 1994 and a total of $10,269.91 has been donated to this worthwhile cause. A number of the previous scholarship winners had been contacted and we are pleased to share with you that they have been successful in pursuing their college degrees. Four scholarships were awarded to the Class of 2003. The recipients were Cheri Darnell, Bryce Dudeck, Rachael Hoffinan and Colt Sims. It was announced at the end of the meeting that $775.00 had been collected for future scholarships.

Sue Carter Hunt' 51, Co-Vice President gave the Memoriam. She asked everyone to read the names printed in the program. Kim Whipple Young '76 has again prepared the Memoriam Board honoring the deceased graduates. We ask that members continue to assist in forwarding information when a member is deceased.

Motions were made to accept the reports of 2002, they were seconded and passed. Co-President Terry Howe Sisson '74 introduced the Board Members who would be moving up and announced that Ted and Diane Richmond Davis '57 had agreed to accept the position as treasurer. The motion for the new treasurer was passed.

The Alma Mater was sung, led by Solon Hunt '45 with Judy Wooldridge Graber '56 accompanying.
