Minutes of the 110th Belle Plaine High School Alumni Reunion

May 25,2002

President, Roger Snellen '64, opened the meeting at 5:00 p.m. with welcoming remarks. Rev. Kendall Utt 72, gave the invocation. Roger then introduced and recognized the earliest alumni: Maudie Hurst Carter '23, Paul Nye '28 and Raymond Bradley '33. The President welcomed the new alumni class of 2002 and the response was given by Jamie Golightley '02, a third generation alumni.

The Belle Plaine Community Singers, accompanied by Barbara Brummett, sang five numbers. The patriotic selections added to the red, white, and blue theme of the evening. Roger thanked Alice Hunt for getting the group together.

The 50-year reunion class was introduced. Norvin Stunkel represented the class of '52. Eighty-six percent of it's members were present. Norvin introduced teacher Jeanne Haines Milligan, who was their guest for the evening. A representative of the other anniversary classes shared class memories.

Judy Wooldridge Graber '56 gave a short history of the Alumni Scholarship Fund. The first time a collection was taken for the Fund was at the 1993 Alumni Reunion. The first scholarships were awarded in 1994. This year they were able to award four $500.00 scholarships to graduating seniors: James Bell, Hillary Gaston, Becky Reiling and Karensa Skeels. The recipients were present, told a little about their future plans, and thanked the Alumni Association. The contribution envelopes for the Scholarship Fund were passed. At the end of the meeting it was announced that $1,250.00 had been collected.

Vice President Terry Howe Sisson '74 gave the Memoriam. She asked everyone to read the names printed in the program. She called attention to the display board in the entry honoring the deceased graduates, which had been prepared by Kim Whipple Young '76.

Motions were made to accept the minutes and the treasurer's report from the 2001 meeting. The motions were seconded and passed. The President introduced the Board members who will be moving up and stated that Wayne Riddle had agreed to accept the position as treasurer. Hearing no nominations from the floor Wayne Riddle was unanimously elected.

The President recognized Jim Narron and Robert Bishop for traveling the farthest. The class of 1962 had the most members present. Bonnie VanCuren Bradley '37 and Raymond Bradley '33 received $25.00 and two tickets to next year's reunion for the best outfits following the red, white and blue theme.

The Alma Mater was sung, led by Solon Hunt '45 with Judy Wooldridge Graber '56 accompanying. Following the singing of the Alma Mater, the classes were called to go through the food lines using the seating arrangement provided by Barbara Hunt Brummett '47.
